A study of 702 people found that the ones who followed a plant-based diet were 38% less likely to get COVID.

The plant-based group was also less likely to get moderate to severe infection, though the difference was not significant.

Other studies have found the severity benefit also, though. One found a 73% reduced risk of moderate-severe COVID with a plant-based diet (BMJ Nutr Prev Health 2021;4:257–66). Another found that people who scored highest on the healthful Plant-Based Diet Score were 41% less likely to have severe COVID (Gut 2021;70:2096-2104).
